About Sherri

Sherri Inouye
For over 10 years I have been providing counselling and support services in different settings including crisis centres, women’s anti-violence organizations, community counselling clinics, women’s centres, and mental health organizations.

In the women’s anti-violence sector I have worked as a trauma counsellor, a support group facilitator and trauma-informed yoga teacher for women healing from violence and abuse.
For me counselling is inspiring, creative and meaningful work. I became a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors in 2012 www.bc-counsellors.org and am registered with the Crime Victim Assistance Program.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Victoria and a Master of Counselling degree from City University of Seattle.

I believe music is healing and my graduate research explored how private music listening is used for emotional self-care and as a form of self-therapy in young women.

In my private practice I provide individual counselling services for people struggling with:

•  Depression
•  Anxiety
•  Self-esteem and self-worth
•  Trauma (including childhood abuse and neglect, childhood sexual abuse, adult sexual assault, violence and abuse in intimate relationships)
•  Life transitions (developmental, end of relationship, career change)
•  Relationship concerns
•  Grief and loss
•  Changing unwanted behaviours and coping strategies (including substance use, self-harm, disordered eating)

I deeply value and regularly engage in personal and professional development. My post graduate trainings include:

•  Feminist and Anti-oppressive training
•  Narrative Therapy
•  EMDR Basic Training (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
•  EMDR for Early Trauma and Neglect held in Implicit Memory
•  Somatics in Complex Trauma
•  Focusing Orientated Therapy
•  Teacher trainings in Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra
•  Dreamwork
•  Energy Work (EFT tapping, Reiki)

My therapeutic interest, focus and experience has primarily been with women. However, if you believe working with me could benefit you please book a consultation appointment to discuss how I may be able to support you. I welcome individuals from all cultures, abilities, races, religions, sexual orientations and gender identities.

My pronouns are she/her/hers. I am mixed race of Japanese and European heritage and am a fourth generation Japanese Canadian (Yonsei). When I’m not working I try and do the things that bring joy and balance to my life including music, dancing, yoga, travel, reading about holistic healing, spending time by the ocean and connecting with my nearest and dearest.
